US Forces Targeted a 'Big Facility' in Venezuela, President Trump Stated Without Offering Specifics.

Ex-President Donald Trump has stated that American forces targeted a "significant plant" in Venezuela last week. However, the ex-leader did not specify the precise purpose or site of the strike, and there has been no additional comment from his team.

Unspecific Remarks Made During a Radio Show

"We just knocked out – I'm not sure if you saw – they have a large facility, where the vessels depart from. Recently, we knocked that out. So we struck them decisively," Trump allegedly informed Republican donor and businessman John Catsimatidis on Friday.

Potential Significance of a Confirmed Strike

Should a American military action is verified, it would constitute the first land strike since the Pentagon initiated a buildup of US military presence in the region to disrupt drug traffickers that the Trump administration asserts operate under the orders of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

This stated mission of the force deployment has since morphed into a blockade aimed at stopping the nation's oil exports.

Online Video and Administration Statements

Trump has for some time indicated that US forces are poised to expand the operations by hitting targets inside Venezuela, a move that would theoretically require congressional approval.

Online video circulated online on 24 December seemed to depict an explosion said to be from an industrial zone in Zulia state. Yet, the video or the facility has not been corroborated.

An administration official reportedly told a media outlet that the former president was referring to a narco-trafficking site in his comments.

Response and Ongoing Strategic Situation

The Caracas administration has issued no statement on the incident Trump described. Additionally, there have been no verified accounts from Venezuela regarding it.

The presence of American forces in the area – a stance some have referred to as a maritime "quarantine" – constitutes the most expansive naval operation of Trump's presidency.

Administration officials have stopped short from describing the operation as a full blockade, but have confirmed that about 15,000 troops are positioned across the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf, including a carrier strike group, advanced fighter jets, and Coast Guard cutters to enforce current sanctions.
